Stress & Headaches

We’ve all been under quite a bit of stress during this tumultuous year. From trouble sleeping to nausea and headaches to anxiety, we’ve all felt some type of stress from recent events. Most commonly, we are hearing our patients are experiencing more headaches than normal when stress levels are at an all time high. Headaches can be mild to severe, from dull aches to throbbing. Some patients even experience nausea from extreme headaches, known as migraines. If this is happening to you, we can help you without the use of standard over the counter pain medicines. But first, let’s learn a bit more about different headaches.

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache among individuals. The pain from these headaches typically are in the head, scalp or neck. But what causes them? Most often these types of headaches are caused from stress and in conjunction with back or neck pain or stiffness. Over the counter medications may help offset the pain, but it’s important to stop the pain at the source. This is why chiropractic adjustments are amazing for these types of headaches.

Some patients also experience migraines, which can be physically debilitating and hard to shake. These types of headaches often cause extreme sensitivity to light, nausea and extreme pain. Those who get migraines often experience them chronically, with some lasting a couple hours and others lasting days.

When you feel a headache coming, it’s important to try to combat it quickly! Regular chiropractic adjustments have proven helpful to many of our patients experiencing regular headaches or migraines. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, a complementary treatment of acupuncture can help prolong the relief and prevent the recurrence of these awful pains! Acupuncture helps relieve pain and tension, and it also promotes relaxation, which is an amazing stress reliever. Low stress means less likely to get headaches!
